What is AdBlue?
AdBlue is a high quality urea solution that is easy to use
AdBlue is a 32.5% solution of high-purity urea in de-mineralized water that is clear, non-toxic and safe to handle. It is non explosive, non flammable nor harmful to the environment.
AdBlue is classified under the minimum risk category of transportable fluids. It is not a fuel, nor a fuel additive and needs to be used in a dedicated tank in your heavy-duty vehicle.
It is replenished in a similar way to refuelling diesel. Should you spill AdBlue on your hands, simply wash it off with water.
How much AdBlue do I need?
Consumption is approximately 2-4% for EuroV and 7-9% for EnroVI compliant vehicles based on total fuel use but varies with duty cycle, operation, geography and other factors.
How should I store AdBlue?
The shelf life of AdBlue® varies with storage temperature. At temperatures under 25ºC, it’s shelf stable for two years. At temperatures of 27 - 32ºC, it has a one year shelf life. It’s recommended that AdBlue® be stored in a cool dry, well ventilated area & not in direct sunlight. The optimum controlled storage temperature is up to 25ºC.
How AdBlue works
AdBlue®, also commonly known as DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) or AUS 32, is a liquid used to reduce the amount of air pollution created by a diesel engine. The use of AdBlue® exhaust systems are now the preferred method of meeting Tier 4 Final and Euro 6 Diesel emissions standards for heavy trucks, and also for cars, light commercial vehicles and agricultural diesel machinery.
This DEF is stored in a separate tank to diesel, and is accurately injected into the SCR (selective catalytic reduction) system of your vehicle via a computer to ensure the exhaust gases are safely converted into nitrogen and water while you drive.
Is AdBlue safe for my vehicle?
Yes, AdBlue is specifically formulated for use in vehicles fitted with SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) systems. It does not damage engines, exhaust systems, or fuel tanks when used correctly in its dedicated AdBlue tank. Using high-quality AdBlue helps maintain compliance with emissions standards, ensures smooth engine performance, and avoids costly repairs caused by contaminated or poor-quality alternatives.
